About the Team
The Kenyon-Wanamingo robotics team is a hands-on sport team intended to be a fun and exciting learning experience for educating students on team work and STEM skills. All of our robots are designed and built on site by the team, metal hand cut and welded by students and mentors, and a 3D printer used to create other useful pieces from designs made by our team!
The team consists of 8th-12th grade students, all of whom work hard throughout the build season. A list of Current Members, Alumni, and Volunteers can be found by clicking the button below.
We are in our 14th season
CHALLENGE: Reefscape
What Is Robotics?
What do we mean by “build a robot”? Just what it says! The competition is different every year, and teams are provided with a challenge released on the first Saturday of January for team worldwide. These challenges involve different tasks teams work together to design mechanisms to complete, successfully carrying out each task rewards the teams with points during competition. Some tasks from past years have included picking up blocks, shooting balls, climbing up platforms, and even having your robot hang off ground! It is up to the teams to design, build, and program a robot which they can drive around and complete these tasks with.
One of the most unique things about the sport of FIRST Robotics is that it is a cooperative competition, or as FIRST says “coopertition”. This means that students learn to work with other teams as well as against them, problem solve, collaborate, and so much more!
How Can You Help?
Sponsorships and other such donations are a vital part of Robotics. Money our team receives goes towards Event Registration, purchasing tools, materials, and electronics, and expanding team opportunities. Sponsorships make it possible to continue providing this valuable STEM education within our local community.
Anything that you can give helps, those who donate or sponsor will be featured on our site, competition banner, and robot. Continued thanks to all who help provide funding to any of the FIRST Robotics Teams!
Non-financial donations are valuable as well. Physical donations of tools, materials, and other items that may be found on our Wishlist are immensely helpful. Snacks, water/juice/soda, and full meals for our Saturdays help students stay energized and focused. Volunteers from STEM fields mentoring team members to help teach them provides a feeling of community combined with deeper learning.
